Clarasight is a US-based scale-up. The company is the leader in carbon planning & intelligence for business travel. Through their solution, they help clients reduce costs, save time, and protect revenue. The driving force behind the company is solving how we as individuals can make a difference in reversing climate change.

Customer’s Initial Problem

Clarasight helps organizations build and manage organization-wide emissions plans that align with their business goals and environmental requirements. In doing so, the company needs to gather each organization’s data from the client’s data sources, transform it, unify it, and turn it into a clean, transparent source of truth.

It should be noted that some of Clarasight’s clients have more than 100,000 employees, and the model should be able to handle the data for all the business travels of those employees. Moreover, Clarasight’s solution’s real value lies in empowering its clients with real-time insights on emissions and costs, variance analyses, and business-critical recommendations.

However, to do it for each client, Clarasight needs a data infrastructure that is scalable enough to deal with the vast amount of data that comes with every new client and also flexible enough to be adjustable to each of their clients’ data and requirements.

Not having the proper data architecture resulted in an inability to onboard new clients effectively and quickly, which jeopardized Clarasight’s development.

How we solved the problem

Clarasight needed a data architecture solution that would enable them to gather their clients’ data, transform it, and turn it into useful reports quickly, efficiently and at scale.

Through our end-to-end Strategic Data Intelligence offering, we were able to help the client solve its data challenge by starting from the very beginning. We kicked off the project with a comprehensive analysis of their current data architecture.

After the consultation phase, we moved to development and implementation. During it, an ETL infrastructure for transforming the data was built together with a system that combines both OLT and OLAP databases, to ensure the smooth operation of both the reporting and the planning parts of the app.

Finally, together with Clarasight, we transitioned into the maintenance phase of our offering, where we assist them with onboarding new clients and further developing the solution, if needed.

Outcome

The final solution allowed us to move over 2 million data records from 6 clients and transform them by establishing around 25 ETL processes. That data infrastructure is now able to work with huge amounts of data and is also flexible enough to be adjustable to each of Clarasight’s clients’ data and requirements.
